The 15th edition of Hengill Ultra Trail gets underway tonight in Hveragerði when the 106-kilometer ultra distance is officially started at 20:00 from Péturstorg, in the heart of the town.
A total of 1,050 runners from 38 countries have registered for this year’s event, making it one of the largest editions in the race’s history. Never before has Hengill Ultra attracted as many international participants, with approximately 300 runners traveling to Iceland from abroad to compete. Participation records have been set in both the 53 km and 106 km races. And never before have so many participants signed up for the 5km.
Competitors can choose between five distances: 5 km, 10 km, 26 km, 53 km and 106 km. While the 106 km race begins this evening, the remaining distances will start tomorrow Saturday with the first start at 08:00 Saturday morning.
Over the weekend, Hveragerði will transform into a vibrant trail running festival, welcoming runners, supporters and visitors from around the world. Alongside the races, the event features an expo, entertainment, local food and a full program of activities for participants and spectators alike.
Over the past fifteen years, Hengill Ultra has grown into one of Iceland’s premier trail running events, attracting runners seeking a challenging course, spectacular landscapes and the unique atmosphere for which the race has become known.
