Hengill Ultra 2026 gives ITRA & UTMB Index
Runners participating in Hengill Ultra 2026 will receive both an ITRA Performance Index and an UTMB Index score for their races.
The UTMB Index is an international trail running performance rating system used throughout the global trail and ultra running community. Runners build their personal UTMB Index by participating in recognized races around the world, creating a benchmark of their level and experience within the sport.
The ITRA Performance Index is a similar international benchmark developed by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and has long been widely used within trail running.
Some trail and ultra races require runners to meet certain experience or performance criteria for participation. In some events, organizers use the ITRA Performance Index or similar benchmarks, while international ultra races may also use the UTMB Index as part of their entry or qualification requirements.
While the qualification system for the UTMB World Series has changed in recent years, runners can still earn a UTMB Index score in recognized races such as Hengill Ultra.
