Participants from 27 Countries Registered for Hengill Ultra
The Running Festival of the Year in Hveragerði on Saturday, June 7
Hengill Ultra Trail, the largest trail running event in Iceland, will take place on Saturday, June 7 in Hveragerði. Both beginners and many of the country’s top trail runners will compete alongside participants from 27 different countries, taking on distances ranging from 26 km up to 106 km. The 5 km and 10 km routes are also very popular and all routes share the same start and finish in the heart of Hveragerði.
STRONG DANISH NATIONAL TEAM PARTICIPATING
The Danish national trail running team is sending a strong women’s squad to participate in Hengill Ultra next week. All four runners are among the top trail runners in Denmark and will compete in the challenging but beautiful Hengill terrain. This is the second time that Denmark sends its best runners to take part in the event.
EXPO AND FESTIVITIES GALORE
There will be a festive atmosphere in Hveragerði that weekend, as around 1,400 runners will be passing through the town on race day. A full program will also be available for those not participating in the race. There will be an expo featuring gear related to trail running and general fitness at the local sports center, and a street grill by the finish line that is open to all. The band Skítamórall will perform at the grill in the afternoon, and DJs Doctor Victor and DJ Anna Ármann will keep the energy high.
STREET GRILL BY THE MASTERS
The Hengill Ultra street grill is led by chef Fannar Geir Ólafsson and his team from Kjötbúrið, a gourmet meat shop in South Iceland. They will be serving 120g gourmet burgers along with beverages from Coca-Cola Iceland. Competitors will receive a meal voucher for the grill, but spectators and guests can also purchase food and enjoy the day with the runners. A large food tent will be set up near the finish line in connection with the street grill. As usual, local host Rakel Magnúsdóttir will be the race announcer, bringing her signature enthusiasm and warmth to the event.
VIKING AFTER-PARTY
The program concludes in the evening with a party at the sports center, featuring performances by Helgi Björns, Pretty Boj Tjokkó, Klara Einars, Doctor Victor, and DJ Anna Ármann. The event is open to all and tickets are on sale now at hengillultra.is.
Registration for the 53k and 106k distances is now closed, but there are still a few spots left in the 5k, 10k, and 26k races. You can register at hengillultra.is.
Discount codes for accommodation at Hotel Örk and Gróðurhúsið can also be found on the website. There’s also an excellent year-round campground in Hveragerði.
