Route description

The 26K kicks off right in the heart of Hveragerði, on Breiðumörk street, just outside the town hall. Runners head out past the local skyr factory, wind through the botanical garden, and then climb into the river gorge, following the Varmá river. You’ll cruise past the Frosti og Funa guesthouse, grind up a short hill, cross the road, and head towards the forested hillside known as Hamars.

From there, you’re on sweet singletrack cutting through the woods along the south side of Hamarinn, and then it’s up onto a lava edge. You’ll pop out onto the old Kambavegur trail, just below the Hrauntunga summer cabins. That old track leads to a bridle path that runs north, tracing a line over Hamarinn, parallel to the main road.

Next, the bridle path drops you into a scenic valley, heading toward the Hamarshöll area, until you hit a footpath that leads to a small car park near Varmá and Dalakaffi at the back of the valley. From there, you pick up a marked route that climbs up Rjúpnabrekkur into the steaming, magical Reykjadalur Valley.

Here’s where it gets wild: the route hugs a hot stream and ascends Klambragil, cutting into remote backcountry trail toward Ölkelduháls, where you’ll find a hydration station waiting. After refueling, it’s back the same way, retracing your steps down the valley and back to the finish line in Breiðumörk where the adventure began.

Heads up: This course throws everything at you—steep climbs, flowing descents, rugged terrain, and potentially fast-changing weather. Come prepped for anything Mother Nature can throw your way.
